I painted these first two portraits in under an hour each (much less time than I spend on most portraits – these are really more like sketches than finished works).
They are both hanging on the wall in our apartment, and they often really amaze me, in a really good way. I’ll catch myself staring at this one and think, “How in the world did I manage such beautiful eye detail so quickly?” It’s such a good reminder that even if whatever I’m painting at the moment is a piece of crap, I do have talent in me, somewhere.
